A birthday cake seems like a small thing. It isn’t.
We don’t want to organise the occasional special birthday. We are building a system that works for many birthdays, again and again.
Why we do it
Because in children’s homes, this isn’t always a given.
For most children, a birthday naturally comes with a cake — with their name or candles on it — and for that one day, everything is a little bit about them.

We contact you with a specific birthday
When a suitable birthday is coming up, we send you the details and ask whether you can take it on.
If the date doesn’t work, another one will come along.

You bake it, and we make sure the coordination is simple and predictable.
Why we are building a network
One pastry shop can give a few cakes.Many pastry shops can cover hundreds of birthdays.
We don’t expect any single partner to carry a heavy load. The whole point of Szívből Sütve is that many small commitments add up to one large, reliable system.
What we are asking from pastry shops
As much as fits.
- You tell us what fits for you.
- We adjust the system to that.
- You don’t have to accept every request.
- You don’t have to find children’s homes or organise a separate programme.
How we help
We take care of the background
We want to build the rest of the system so that it means as little extra work for you as possible.
Among other things, we handle:
- the relationship with children’s homes
- coordinating upcoming birthdays
- collecting the necessary information
- matching pastry shops with institutions
- continuously improving the process
We are not building a campaign.We are building infrastructure.
The goal is a model that can later be easily repeated outside Budapest too.
What we are building now
The first version of the system launches in Budapest.
We already have the relationships with children’s homes that the pilot can build on.
Now we are building the other side: we are looking for Budapest pastry shops that would happily take on a cake from time to time.
From the first cakes, we will learn:
- 01how much advance notice works well
- 02how matching should work
- 03what information pastry shops need
- 04how pickup or delivery should work
- 05how to handle food intolerances and special requirements
- 06how the system can later run with less and less manual coordination

Szívből Sütve is an initiative of the Global Shapers Budapest Hub. The Global Shapers Community is the World Economic Forum’s international network of young leaders. The Budapest community works on local projects that look for working, later scalable solutions to tangible social problems.

In child protection, we work with organisations and professionals who work with children’s homes every day.
Mosolytorta
We also work with the Mosolytorta team and share our experience with each other. They make individual children’s birthdays special with personalised celebrations; we are building the system that helps a cake reach as many birthdays as possible.
